We enjoyed an awesome time of teaching with the guys today. We were considering the role of scripture in our worship services. We dove pretty deep, but they were totally tracking with me. We first took a look in the Gospel of John and saw that the person of Jesus is equated with the Word (Jn 1:1). Then we noticed that the Word is equated with Truth (Jn 17:17). That of course led us to what Jesus said of himself, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life…” (Jn 14:6). Wow, Jesus = Word = Truth = Jesus! So, what we must conclude is that when we intentionally use scripture in our worship services the person of Jesus is manifested.
We bring Jesus into our worship and we facilitate the work of the Holy Spirit when we infuse our service with the Word. And that, we have found, is a life altering answer to the all important question of “Why”. Whether we speak it, sing it, preach it, or teach it, “How” we incorporate scripture into or worship isn’t nearly as important as “Why”. It’s been a good day of discovery in Belize, we found Jesus in the jungle.
